ITFF 2021 First Leg Santa Severa - Sunday July 25, 20:45: Film screening Alida Valli: in her own words directed by Mimmo Verdesca

 

 A special event for the first leg of 10th International Tour Film Festival with the film screening of Alida Valli: in her own words directed by Mimmo Verdesca, recurring the Centenary of the birth of the great actress Alida Valli. The film was presented in Cannes Classics Documentary category at Cannes Film Festival 2020 and now it will be screened at courtyard of the Barrozze of the Castle of Santa Severa, at 8.45pm. All the procedures required by the anti COVID-19 legislation will be applied.

The Italian director award-winning Mimmo Verdesca tells the story of the legendary Italian movie star Alida Valli (worked with Visconti, Hitchcock, Welles, Bertolucci, Argento ect.), through the unpublished words of her letters and diaries that come back to life through the actress Giovanna Mezzogiorno’s voice, enriching it with other exclusive materials: photographs, home movies in 8mm, new interviews with her sons, relatives, friends and collaborators, including Dario Argento, Roberto Benigni, Bernardo Bertolucci, Charlotte Rampling, Vanessa Redgrave, Margarethe von Trotta, Thierry Frémaux among the others, and much more archive material from all over the world.
The documentary “Alida (Alida Valli: In Her Own Words)”, in official selection at Cannes Classics 2020, shows a complete and unseen portrait of the life of a beautiful young girl from Pula (Istria) who quickly became one of the most famous and beloved actresses of Italian and international cinema who, in 2021, would be 100.

 

 

MIMMO VERDESCA

Mimmo Verdesca is a Italian filmmaker; he has worked in film, TV and theatre since 2002 and has collaborated with the likes of Maurizio Ponzi, Fabio Grossi and Ferzan Ozpetek. He made his first documentary in 2011, "In arte Lilia Silvi" about the life and career of the last real diva of the "Telefoni Bianchi" era, which won several awards in 2012 including a Nastro d'argento for the Best Documentary dedicated to cinema. In 2015 he released his sophomore documentary "Protagonisti per sempre" which revolved around the stories of the most celebrated child actors of Italian cinema which went on to win the Gryphon Award for the best documentary at the Giffoni Film Festival 2015. His docu "Sciuscià 70" about the filming of the legendary Vittorio De Sica film "Sciuscià", a masterpiece of "Neorealismo". Mimmo Verdesca with this documentary won his second Nastro d'Argento in 2017.
