Sunday 11 October, 10:00 - Out of Competition Screening of Short Films made by Jilin Animation Institute (China)

Jilin Animation Institute (shortened as JAI) was founded in June, 2000, and admitted to be an independent undergraduate-level private college by Ministry of Education in 2008. At present, JAI has 15 branch schools and 34 majors, covering art, literature, engineering and management. 

The school has around 12,000 enrolled students. The Animation department saw international personalities from animation industry as teachers like Mark Osborne (Kung Fu Panda and The Little Prince) and Anthony La Molinara (Academy Award Winner for the best special effects in Spider Man 2)

 

 

 THE SHORT FILMS

 

 

·         河狸 (Beaver) (China, 2019) directed by Gao Lingbo - Running Time 4 minutes

The animated short film "beaver" tells the story of animals in the forest working together to fight against the flood and manage the flood to protect their homes. In terms of artistic style, the combination of Chinese green landscape and Yuxian paper-cut is used for creation, while the animation is created in the artistic form of Chinese shadow play.

 

 

 

·         孕育 (Creation) (China, 2020) directed by di Chen Yu and Du Yuxin - Running Time 2 minutes

The animation short film "Gestation" shows the hardships in the process of human being's gestation of life through the process of mussel's gestation of pearls, and understands the hardships and wonders of exploration and gestation

 

 

·         英雄 (Hero) (China, 2019) directed by Liu Chang - Running Time 8 minutes

The film tells a story in which a firefighter who rescued a boy in a building on fire met the boy again twenty years later.

 

 

·         鹮 (The Crested Ibis) (China, 2020) directed by Dong Shijun - Running Time 2 minutes

Crested Ibis was hunted by hunters in a riverside foraging. Its life and death are uncertain. Many years later, people built a reserve for Crested Ibis. Will the Crested Ibis that disappeared in those days come back again?

 

 

 

 

海象 (Walrus) (China, 2020) directed by Yuan Yihan - Running Time 2 minutes

 

Global warming, sea ice shrinking. The walrus cannot rest on the sea ice and can only be forced to crowd the beaches and cliffs. The walrus that had just landed from the water had poor eyesight. They don't know the danger is at hand.
